After breakfast proceed for guided city tour in Budapest – Heroes’ Square, Millennium Monument, City Park, zéchenyi Spa, Vajdahunyad castle, Andrássy Avenue (UNESCO World Heritage), Stephen’s Cathedral, Parliament, Castle District of Buda (UNESCO World Heritage), Matthias Church, Liberty Statue and the Citadel) passing through the Chain Bridge, afternoon with shopping. Evening you can experience the River cruise on Danube where you get acquainted with the highlights of our capital city from the Danube.
After breakfast, we proceed for the Danube Bend Tour which is an excursion into Hungary’s history where you will be taken to Esztergom, centre of the Catholic Church, and visit the Cathedral. Tour will continue to Visegrad, the former Royal seat, where we have lunch (3 course menu) and we carry on to Szentendre for a guided walk. We visit the magnificent Caprice Hungarian Jewellery Museum, followed by coffee and soft drinks before returning to Budapest on the Danube by boat. The tour ends at the pier in Budapest. Communist Times, 56 Revolution, WWI & II: Journey back to the time when we drove Trabants, drank spirits at work, lived in block of flats, had two passports, no TV on Mondays and had no freedom of speech! The Hammer and Sickle tour, the way it was comrade! This tour takes you on a journey back to the times about how life was like during our 50 years of communism. We’ll teach you about how life was like behind the iron curtain. How children were brought up, how families lived, how we traveled, where we could travel, how long it took to get a passport and many other interesting experiences from black markets to banana lines. Also included on the tour is our own private exhibition room where we will introduce you to the real features of a Hungarian home through relics to typical furniture and furnishings. Furthermore we have an extensive collection of many communist related artifacts and relics, such as red and blue passports, party member’s registration book, pins, medals, currency to help your understanding of the propaganda we once lived under! On the tour we go through the Hungarian history that “shook” the world with the 1956 revolution as one of the main highlighted themes. The tour leads you through the remembrance of the first protests and marches and the first shootings and killings that led the Hungarians to fight back against an unethical regime and some of the major areas where all the action happened. Summer (April – Oct) You will be driven to Kecskemet where you will be taken for a guided walk, then further on to Lajosmizsa, where you are welcomed with a traditional Hungarian drink after the great performance of the famous horsemen and a carriage ride through the Puszta, a typical Hungarian meal (3 course menu with wine) is served in the ‘csarda’ accompanied by gipsy music. The tour ends in Budapest at your hotel. OR Winter (Nov – March) Visit to the former summer – Residence of Queen Elisabeth (Sissi) in Godollo (the second largest baroque chateau of the world), which preserved the atmosphere of old times till this day. You will be able to walk through the same hallways, the staircases and the park of this amazing baroque building as the beloved princess. the tour ends at the Hotel InterContinental.
After breakfast, at leisure till departure. Transfer to the airport or station (on your own). End of a lovely tour!!
