Shillong : Visit this ‘Scotland of the East’,to enjoy a serene and lovely atmosphere. It is the finest hill station with its gorgeous lakes and surging waterfalls.
Barapani (Umiam Lake): It is the biggest artificial lake in the north-east. Here variety of water sports activities take place like kayaking, water cycling, scooting and boating.
Ward’s Lake: Walk along the artificial horse-shoe shaped lake, also known as nan-Polok. The lake is surrounded by lush green enchanting garden with varieties of colorful flowers. It is set within the heart of Shillong city. It serves as an exciting tourist spot as the walk along the sand stone pathways of the garden, pleasurable stroll on the wooden arched bridge at the middle of the lake and boating in the lotus-filled lake is quite delightful. All of this makes it an exciting tourists’ spot.
Botanical Garden: This Garden located near the Ward’s lake houses a wide-ranging assortment of aboriginal and exotic plants. Apart from this, it is also a home to a number of rare and colourful species of birds.
Evening: Free at leisure. Overnight: Stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, take a full day outing to Cherrapunji.
Cherrapunji: Cherrapunji which is commonly called as Sohra, owns the record for maximum rainfall. Visit this magnificent place which is beautifully decorated in breathtaking waterfalls, gorgeous valleys and yet to be explored charming caves. Here, visit-
Nohkalikai Falls: Tallest waterfall in India and fourth longest fall in the world at 1,100 feet. Nohkalikai, meaning ‘fall of Ka Likai’ in Khasi language has a legend behind it. A stepfather her kills the daughter and offers flesh of the daughter after cooking it to her mother to eat. Learning this the woman named Ka Likhai takes a fall from the cliff naming it ‘fall of Ka Likai.’
Mawsmai Cave: This is the only lighted cave of Meghalaya which possesses eye-catching lime formation of big passages and chambers made over years by the slow dripping of water.
Thangkharang Park: This botanical park houses rare and exotic orchids and offers royal sight of Bangladesh plains.
Seven Sister Falls: Deriving its name from the seven segmented streams which flow down from a height of 1,033 meters. This is the fourth highest fall in India.
Return to Shillong in the late afternoon. Overnight: Stay in hotel.
After breakfast, take a full day excursion of Shillong visiting –
Shillong Peak: This is the highest peak in the state. It offers breathtaking view of the city and is a perfect picnic spot.
Elephant Falls: This waterfall flows through two consecutive falls amidst rocks covered with ferns. This offers lovely view when the sunlight falls here.
Don Bosco Centre for Indigenous Culture: This centre offers a display of unique cultural heritage of North- East. Along witht the research on cultures, publications, animation programmes among others, the centre boasts of 14 galleries displaying interaction on various cultures of this state and skywalk through which 360 degree view of the Shillong city is visible.
Cathedral of Mary Help of Christian: This cathedral is largest and most beautiful cathedral in Meghalaya. It is designed in the pattern of European art and architecture and attracts large number of devotees and tourists.
Shillong Golf Course: The Shillong Golf Course is the third oldest golf course in Indi. It is also called as ‘Glen eagle of the East’. This place is perfect for evening walk and picnics as it offers calm surroundings with scenic beauty.
Butterfly Museum: Renowned for its unique and exclusive collection of butterflies and moths, this entomological museum is wonderful.
Evening: Free for shopping at Bara Bazaar and Police Bazaar. Overnight: stay in Shillong.
After breakfast, move to Kaziranga National Park.
Kaziranga National Park: This Park is internationally popular forest reserve and a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. It houses variety of flora and fauna. Mainly the residence of the Great One horned Rhinoceros, this place also houses large population other wild animals, reptiles, endangered species and birds.
En route visit — Eco Shop: take a look of famous traditional wooden craft made by tribal people here.
Arrive at Kaziranga and check-in jungle resort. Overnight: Stay in a jungle resort in Kaziranga
Elephant Safari: Early morning, in the central range (Kohora) of Kaziranga National Park, enjoy an elephant ride.
After breakfast, explore the way of living of North Eastern People by stopping over to the Ethnic Village of Kajir Ronghangpi Aklam, Kohora. Take a look at Assam tea plantation by observing teams of multi-hued dressed tea garden workers plucking the delicate buds and leaves. Don’t forget to visit company outlet of Hathikuli Tea Estate to buy different varieties of organic tea.
Visit Natun Danga Karbi village and take part in an ethnic feast there.
Jeep Safari: Post lunch, take a Jeep safari round in the western range (Bagori) of Kaziranga National Park.
